The British Furniture Manufacturers Limited (BFM Ltd) itself is a trade association that has represented the interests of the British furniture industry for more than 65 years. Originally a number of regional organisations they merged into the national association known today.
The BFM prides itself by being run by the members (a board of twelve directors, eleven of which are senior management within furniture companies plus the Managing Director) for members and the wider industry. Membership is open to manufacturing companies in all sectors including upholstery, cabinet, bathroom, kitchen, office, mattress & beds; suppliers and retailers may join as associates, which means the supply chain is represented. Currently furniture manufacturers have to produce fifty per cent or more product in the UK (not including importing of component parts) to become a member of the BFM.
The membership totals 200 companies and benefits include Health, Safety and Environmental support, Employment Law support to tribuneral level if necessary, export and legislative support , together with business opportnitues, commodity pricing and others.
The BFM has a wealth of experience including Human Resources, Employment Law, regulations e.g. EUTR, Health and Safety, Environmental, Chain of Custody, Education and Training and Project Management.
